Gardens are not made of plants alone; the right man-made elements can complete
the scene. Although plants are our main interest at Egan Gardens, we also
carry some unique decorative items to make your garden more beautiful
and more livable.
Pottery
We love pots. We go nuts when we look at pottery catalogs, and feel like
we're in heaven inside a pottery distributor's warehouse. With at least
three people making the selections, there's going to be something for
everyone's taste on hand, from the starkly simple to the highly detailed.
The general kinds are Glazed pottery from Vietnam, China and Malaysia,
Terra cotta from Italy, USA and Mexico. Lightweight, durable look-alikes
that are very convincing imitations of terracotta and concrete. EcoForm
pots, made of molded straw-type materials (surprisingly attractive)
Pulp pots, made of recycled paper, made by Western Pulp in Corvallis (support
local manufacturing and recycling!)
Whimsy
A longtime favorite is the Carruth line of garden plaques. The beautifully
crafted stone-look pieces portray little beasts, birds, flowers and fairies
with realistic detail combined with farfetched silliness. Vegetables with
personalities are their latest series. We love them, and judging by the
number of them that pass through our shop, so do lots of other people.
Greeting cards are a split-personality situation at Egan Gardens. The
normal people on staff chose the pretty, flowery cards from local artist
Melissa Sayer. I chose the weird, funny ones from Cara Scissoria. We hope
you'll find something that suits your personality(ies).
Water Features
Gardens
are always nicest with a little water, so you'll find we keep a good selection
of fountains and birdbaths - striking modern styles, classic European
looks, and naturalistic rock and leaf-like fountains all are generally
available. Since old-fashioned concrete garden benches look great with
the fountains, they're always available, too.

The Nitty Gritty Stuff
Of course we wouldn't send you off with your new baby plants into the cold, cruel world without providing you with the materials you'll need to make them a good home. Potting soils, composts, manures, fertilizers, disease controls, insect controls, gloves, trowels, fertilizer injectors, stakes, and all manner of essentials can be found -- as well as advice on when and how to use them correctly. |
